Dr. Pagano's seminal studies of Epstein-Barr virus have helped to demonstrate that this virus is the causative agent of infectious mononucleosis and contributes to or causes Burkitt’s lymphoma in Africa and nasopharyngeal carcinoma in China. He has served on numerous editorial boards and as a scientific advisor to universities and governments. He provides scientific and business advice to both large and small corporations, while maintaining an active research laboratory at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Dr. Pagano is a member of the Institute of Medicine and a former member of the The Burroughs Wellcome Fund’s Board of Directors.
